VOA- Gabon Police: Crime is spiking as prisoners freed.

This information benefits their audience because it informs them of the crimes that are going on


in their surrounding areas, and what happened after they freed the prisoners. They are supporting


this information by giving us background information about why President Oligui decided to free


these prisoners, and they were able to identify the prisoners who went back to committing


crimes. What may have motivated the writer was that he may have felt like this was something


that should be brought to everyone’s attention. It was published April 9th, 2024. This would be


considered an academic source because it is apart of the U.S. Agency for Global Media.



Brasil de Fato- “Homeless population grows 27% in Niterói in the last two years, according to a


report”


This information is given by Alípio Freire, a Brazilian journalist, artist, and writer. They support


the information they’ve given by providing the reader with a follow-up (read also) so it can help


their audience understand what they previously stated. There was a survey given that was carried


out by the city hall. According to the survey, the main reason for permanent homelessness is


unemployment. The research was done because there was a noticeable change in the homeless


population. It had increased by 27%. This would be considered an academic source because most


likely every reader would benefit from some information given and have something to think


about after reading it and doing more research into it.



Prensa Latina- “Revolutionary General Strike in Cuba, an approach to victory”


The information is provided by Prensa Latina. The information benefits their audience because it


explains the celebration why there is something worth celebrating. On April 9th & 10th of 1958,


over 100 people had lost their lives in a general strike orchestrated by the July 26 Movement.


This led to a widespread movement that would overthrow Gerardo Machado. On April 9, 2024


Cubans celebrated the 66th anniversary of the strike. They are supporting the information by


providing background information on the attacks and why they are an important part of Cuban


history. The article was published April 9, 2024. The article would be considered an academic


source because it’s from a news agency.
